Togo: Political trajectory and the future of civic space Spécial

In Togo, recent events highlight two distinct but complementary dynamics: on the one hand, a security issue linked to document fraud and the protection of civil status for citizens; on the other hand, a political debate on the vitality of pluralism and the evolution of civil liberties. Between the imperative of sovereignty and questions about the quality of democratic debate, these developments call for a cross-analysis of the country's contemporary challenges, both security-related and institutional.

Identity fraud and cross-border threats: heightened vigilance in Lomé

Last week, the Togolese national police announced the dismantling of a network involved in the forgery of national identity cards in the capital. This operation follows the arrest of two individuals suspected of involvement in this trafficking in the Avépozo Tropicana neighbourhood, east of Lomé. The two men, Atangana from Cameroon and Edmond from Togo, are currently in police custody.
