The stakeholder consultation process for the development of the National Program for the Prevention of Violent Extremism (PVE) in Eastern DRC was launched on December 12, 2024. More than 10 organizations took part in the meeting. The program resulting from these consultations will serve as UNDP's offer document in terms of response to the rise of violent extremism in the DRC.

In the DRC, the UNDP office is committed to supporting the government and provincial governments of eastern DRC to prevent and respond to violent extremism that could lead to terrorism. To this end, regional discussions on violent extremism were organized in July 2023 to carry out a contextual analysis and identify programmatic implications. This activity involved a variety of institutional players, civil society, academia, community leaders and UN agencies.

With the support of its institutional and academic partners and the Young Reporters on Sustainable Development (JERODD), the UNDP in the DRC has launched a participatory action-research project involving former combatants from the ADF group. Institutions and communities affected by the crises were consulted in order to gain a more detailed understanding of the dynamics of violent extremism in this part of the country, and to identify programmatic implications for the development of a pilot national EVP program focused on community resilience. The consultation also gathered baseline data and community perceptions of violent extremism at local level.
